Summer Camps Updates

Good Afternoon!

Our summer camps our going great and the students are doing a fantastic job! As we prepare for the entire band camp, there are some reminders and suggestions listed to help out.

 

PARENTS - We need are seeking donations of the following items for band camp:

•   • powdered Gatorade
•   • disposable cups
•   • peanut butter
•   • saltines
•   • goldfish

Please drop them off in the band room before Camp on August 2nd.

All students should be working hard to sell Concert Program Ads for this year. Please bring any completed ads to the band room during mini-camps or regular band camp. This will end on September 3rd.

BEFORE CAMP - Things to think about or obtain prior to band camp:

•   • Exercise before camp begins
•   • Have appropriate clothing (i.e. light colored clothes and loose cotton)
•   • Tennis shoes
•   • Sunscreen
•   • Buy a Water Jug
•   • A hat that covers the ears
•   • Begin hydrating days before camp starts (discontinue drinking sodas before camp)
•   • Check medications to see if there are any that may react poorly to the sun
•   • Get a 1/2 inch binder with sheet protectors for marching music

DURING CAMP - Some key items to remember:

•   • Students should hydrate 1 hour prior to going outside
•   • Students will have numerous water breaks at regular intervals during practice
•   • Students should hydrate immediately following rehearsal
•   • OCPS meals will be provided during lunch/dinner. Students have the option to decline the meal if they have brought something from home
•   • DO NOT drink sodas or energy drinks
•   • Bring dry clothes for changing

Congratulations to the Wind Symphony!!!

The Wind Symphony participated in the State Concert MPA on April 28 in Gainesville at the University of Florida. It was an amazing honor just to be able to perform at this event once we received straight superiors at the district level. The group performed exceptionally well and earned a superior and two excellents. This is very difficult to achieve at the state level and we are proud of all the hard work from the students!

The Wind Symphony has been invited to the 2011 New York Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall. This festival occurs next March at one of the world’s most prestigious concert halls. Through an application process, our wind band was one of only six high school bands across the country that was selected for this fantastic experience. This is a wonderful achievement for the Sound of the Braves to perform on the national level with the highest quality adjudicators and clinicians.
